Tokyo Rooftopping – The Shiodome Cage – Japan
Shiodome (汐留) is an area of Tokyo that was recently redeveloped into an ultra modern mini-skyscraper district. It’s clean, and has a lot of tall buildings, so it seemed like a decent start towards rooftopping in Tokyo. I came late in the night and started hunting around the area. Imagine lots of posh shops combined with expensive hotels and buildings. As you walk to the outskirts of the district, things get noticeably more drab, but that’s where I spotted it; the Shiodome Cage.
That’s not an official name of course, but from a rooftopping perspective, it fits perfectly. Take a look at these pictures (and video at the end), and you’ll see why:
I grabbed a quick video this time around; take a look (HD is available):
You may have noticed it’s not a particularly high place, I was only up about 10-12 floors, but it’s a unique place worth visiting. Besides that, there’s no lack of skyscrapers in the area, it’s just a matter of actually getting to the top of them; good luck to any explorers who make the trip to the Shiodome district!
